====== OpenDocMan Off-Site Storage Usage Overview ======

The philosophy of our off-site filesystem is openness and flexibility. Your account is accessed by the ssh, ftp and WebDAV protocols - open standards that can be extended and customized.

===== Examples for Microsoft Windows Users =====

Windows users can map their off-site filesystem to a drive letter on their system, and use it just like any other local drive. This is an extremely simple and powerful integration method, and can be set up in moments.

Windows users can also set up [[windows_rsync|powerful and efficient automated backups]] of their system with the industry standard rsync tool.

Advanced uses, such as remote encrypted filesystems, are supported.

===== Examples for Mac OSX Users =====


Your ODM Off-Site filesystem can be [[mac_integration|opened as a normal folder]], right in the Finder. You may use it in OSX just like any other folder. No software installation is necessary for this.

OSX also includes a standard complement of Unix tools, including rsync, scp, ftp and sftp. Therefore [[mac_integration|simple and powerful incremental backups]] can be implemented without installing additional software.

===== Examples for Linux/Unix Users =====


Standard command line tools like rsync, scp, sftp, and ftp are supported, as well as more advanced tools such as Unison, rdiff-backup and duplicity.

Further, with the use of sshfs, Linux and FreeBSD users can mount their ODM Off-Site filesystem on a local mount point, and use it just as they would any other mounted filesystem. We have a Linux sshfs HOWTO and a FreeBSD sshfs HOWTO.

Using rsync in a cron job is the fastest and most efficient way for Linux and Unix users to perform incremental backups, and scp/sftp can be used to manipulate individual files from wherever you happen to be.

The WebDAV accessibility of your ODM OSS filesystem makes browsing in Konqueror and other WebDAV clients possible.

Remote encrypted filesystems can also be maintained on your ODM OSS filesystem.
